Solo Micro Camper:

[View On You Tube]   [Resources]

The Micro Camper was built inside a 2018 Ford Expedition. The client didn't want the vehicle modified so that it could be returned to its original state. We built this without doing any drilling or cutting into the vehicle.
To make room, the second row seating was removed and the client stored the seats at her home. The back row seating was left in place since it would be too cumbersome for her to store it. Not that much usable space would be gained by removing them anyway.

Electrical System

The Solo Camper was built as a modular design. All modules that incorporate electrical components are designed to electrically disconnect from each other using plugs and connectors.

The floor module bolts to where the 2nd row seats bolt in, creating a solid foundation. Before it was installed, 2 sets of 6 AWG cables where run to the vehical battery system to provide charging for the system battery. The base module then attaches to the floor module. This then houses the main battery and electrical module which includes:

  • 2000 W Sine Wave Inverter

  • 60A DC-DC Charger

  • 20A AC Battery Charger

  • 20A PWM Solar Charger

  • W3230 Low Temperature Charge Protection system for the LiFePO4 Battery

  • LiFePO4 Battery 12V @ 200Ahr

The base module also contains an automatic transfer switch to swap 120V power between the inverter and the shore power source. It also includes USB and 12V Power Point outlets.

A control panel is contained in a centralized cabinet module that includes:
  • Inverter Status & Control

  • Battery Monitor

  • Fan Control

  • 12V & 120VAC Outlets, USB and switches

Rear Storage Area

A rear garage area gives generous storage space. There is even room under the left side cabinets to store a folding camp chair and other long items. The circulation fan can pull air from outside by cracking open the rear lift glass. The fan is reversible and has variable speed adjust.

The client is planning on possibly adding 200 watts of solar panels to the roof at a future date. The electrical system was already built to accommodate them. A Lugan style removable table was also installed that can be used while sitting with the bed fully reclined (although I don't have any photos at this time to show).
